We stayed here for just the one night in July, as we are going to a wedding in the New Forest. Lovely hotel! Checked in easily, lady on reception very friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable - what I expected of a country type hotel, although the bathroom could do with updating. One thing though, was that literally everything in the room creaked! Walking on the floor made such a racket, that I worried about the people beneth us.....although we were woken at 6.45am, by the person above walking around, until we went to breakfast at 9.30am....the light fitting was litereally shaking! And also, our room was above the lounge, so we could hear people talking/laughing until 1.30am.
Breakfast was buffet. You could have cooked, or there was cereal. Was very tasty!
All in all, a pleasant stay, apart from being woken at an untimely hour of the morning!

My husband originally booked to stay in Bournemouth but on arrival we had so many problems that we left! We drove along the coast road which showed many B & Bs with no vacancies. Almost giving up hope and deciding to go back home we drove through Lyndhurst and saw the sign which said there were rooms available. The receptionist was really kind and helpful and our room was lovely. It was on the first floor overlooking the garden. The car park could be seen beyond this but there have been trees planted to make this view better. Despite the hotel being on a very busy road we could hear no noise at all. The bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom were large and all amenities were available to us.
In the evening we chose to stay in the hotel for dinner. There was 25% discount on the food if you chose to do this and I have to say that the meal we had was outstanding. The staff were attentive and helpful and we had a wonderful dinner of three courses. Even without the discounted amount, this would still have been very good value.
Breakfast was slightly chaotic as we had chosen the busiest time to go but there was nothing too much trouble again for the staff. It was a nice place to be even though we were only around 5 miles from home!!!

We stayed for a night in April and found this hotel to be perfectly adequate. We stayed in the back so as to avoid the traffice noise, the room was very large and nicely furnished and the bathroom was enormous and very clean. The hotel does creak a bit because of its age, but really wasnt a problem. We were kept awake a bit as our room overlooked the garden and there were some very loud people outside until the early hours. Breakfast was delicious and the staff very friendly. We would definately recommend this charming hotel.

Please do ignore the doom and gloom type reviews on this website, some people just love complaining! We found this hotel to be quite lovely with clean rooms and good food! There was a small mix up with our booking but the manager graciously upgraded us and gave us free drinks to compensate! A very enjoyable stay and we would definitely go back!

Unlike other posters here - we found nothing about The Crown at Lyndhurst to praise!!!! Everything creeks and I mean everything, from opening the wardrobe door to the bathroom door, the bed-head was insecure and constantly banged against the wall, there was "nasty" woodchip wallpaper used as draw liners! unbelievable and basically just walking up and down the room , gave creak, creak, creak. We had a room overlooking what I can only term as one of the busiest thoroughfares in southern england. Lyndhurst is a village and the amount of traffic that goes through on the one way system is unbelievable. The secondary glazing on the windows is therefore totally ineffective. We were woken each morning at 7am (including Sunday!) so no sleep there! When we closed the windows trying to get some sleep, there was no air conditioning either. We could hear every step taken by the guests in the room upstairs, creaking again. We were unable to turn off the boiling hot towel rail in the bathroom, which made the room very warm indeed. Breakfast was a total disaster - mediocre food kept warm, tables so close to the self service area - that I would actually call to mind the safety aspects of guests carrying occasionally hot food pushing past your table. Ummmm, not exactly 3 Star hotel, in my opinion, The staff, I found, to be pleasant at best and downright dis-interested most of the time. The whole Hotel needs gutting and significant refurbishment needs to take place in order to stop the creaking. We shall not be returning to this hotel again.
