I stayed in the Duomo mid week and it was very quiet with mostly pensioners as guests . The position is first class but the hotel is not four star standard .
The rooms are a good standard and the hotel was spotless . I had a room with a lake view which opened onto a large terrace . There is no pool and the breakfast was basic but adequate . Salo is a perfect spot which is very popular with Italians . The ferry terminal is only 100 meters from the hotel .
The hotel is value for money , the service is friendly and the position is first class although if you arrive late at night you cannot
get your car to the door and the car park is closed .
Take care in the Papillion restaurant nearby , the food is superb but you have to pay at a till inside , I was overcharged for wine and only realised when I checked my credit card receipt . As they say in Italy you have to be a little bit furbo .

This small 4 Star hotel is well run ,in as much that all the Staff are courteous, friendly and generally helpful. Our bed linen & towels were changed daily & our beds turned down during dinner. all very nice.
The self sevice breakfast was more than adequate with a large choice of foods available.
Sadly the evening table d'hote menu was NOT of 4 star standard: the choice of courses was somewhat limited, and not always well cooked. Although -IF - IF you could afford it there
was an extensive & pricey A la Carte menu.
The evening meal service was exceptionly slow, largely due to a large party of over 40 German/Swiss, some of whom were not staying in the hotel, but were taking dinner there most evenings.
Worse still was the expensive (for Italy) wine list: the average price for quite ordinary house wines was around 24 Euros for a 75 ml bottle.
My wife & I have, over the years, taken 17 - 18 holidays in Itaty in both 3 & 4 star Hotels: in all of these we had much better evening meals.
Our visit to Salo was, we think too early in the Season.
The place was almost empty after 8pm.
We do recommend visting other parts of Lake Garda by the many various ferries, BUT do make sure you catch the right boat back or you may have a very expensive Taxi ride back to Salo.

We've just had 5 days at Hotel Duomo. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, hotel was a disappointment.
We had high temperatures whilst in Salo and there were obviously some power issues as the hotel turned off the airconditioning a few times (but left the fan running). This occurred both during the day and in the evenings.
The mattresses had a definite "dip" in them, and there are no tea-making facilities in the room.
The breakfasts were very good, but we ate dinner in the restaurant one night and were unimpressed. The meals were okay, but overpriced. Half of the cheese served on the cheese platter was dried out and rock solid. We ate meals at some of the bistros in town at half the price and twice the quality.

This has been our second visit to the Hotel (4 days last year and 7 days this year). Excellent location right on front at Lake Garda (small road between hotel and Lake but not very busy). Go for a half board package as dining a la carte would be pricey. Our 6 breakfasts and 7 evening meals were all excellent (try fresh oranges from the machine at breakfast and the sea bass for two for evening meal or the fillet steak or fresh Lake Garda fish) Breakfasts and evening meals are really good and service is friendly and very helpful. Wine starts at 16 euros (very nice). No swimming pool but theres a whirlpool and a lovely veranda area with sun beds and overlooking the lake and looking down onto the small road and passers by. Free secured parking about 7 minutes walk up the road and free bikes available. Hotel is a two minute walk to the ferry terminal and is set in a beautiful location. Also right next to the impressive cathedral which uses its square in front of catherdral for classical concerts.
Air conditioning is OK but alternative is to leave veranda door open but secure, during the night . (you can turn off air cond fans if you want to) .Air conditioning fans are a little noisy and rooms are OK but not spacious (TV but no tea coffee making facilities in our room.) Mini bar in room.
Will definitly go again as location food and staff are excellent but as I say try the half board package and you can contact the hotel direct. They take bookings with a credit card but dont charge up front. Salo itself gives you the feel of Italy rather than the feel of just being a tourist. The bill did not contain any hidden extras !
Salo itself is a beautiful resort (in my opinion the nicest on Lake Garda); its not as commercial as say Sermione or Garda but has lots of nice tavernas, bars and shops.

We've just returned from a fantastic holiday to Salo, which was made all the more special by the warm welcome and incredibly friendly staff of Hotel Duomo. Our room had a balcony view over the Bay of Salo which was truly beautiful as we watched the boats come and go. Our room was always spotlessly clean, the food was fantastic and the staff always had a smile. The hotel is also really close to where the boats drop off and pick up people visiting other towns on Lake Garda. We couldn't recommend Salo enough and Hotel Duomo is the perfect place to stay.
