Hotel Pedraladda Castelsardo

Please visit Sardinia it's a beautifull island but avoid staying at the Hotel Pedraladda, the rooms are adequate, however although they suggest you get a balcony or patio, it is not apparent until you arrive that the balcony is only just big enough for 2 chairs side by side and you have to use the air-con unit as a table!! patios are not private but shared. The food is terrible, the cold self service buffet is fair but the 'hot' food is quite often cold or warm at best. Having complained about the temperature of the food we were told that this was the Italian way! However in all the other resteraunts I ate in (my wife ate very little due to gastric problems, see below) the food was always piping hot. We had booked 6 nights but only stayed 3 (it would have been 2 but they demanded 24hrs notice), for the rest of the holiday my wife had suspected mild food poisoning!!! The entertainment appeared to be recorded music for you to dance to (entertaining yourselves) . The island itself is beautiful with some of the best tropical plants we have seen outside the carribean, the views from the mountains are stunning as are the beaches.

Had a wonderful holiday at the Pedraladda

My husband, three year old daughter and I stayed here for a week at the end of August, 2007 and had a wonderful holiday! We opted for the 'superior' room which, after talking to other guests simply meant 'air-con and a view' - both of which were worth the extra. The room, although basic, was cleaned daily and absolutely spotless. It had a fridge but no tea/coffee making facilities which I personally missed. The shared balcony was no problem at all and the views to Castelsardo were beautiful. Being on the third (top) floor of course meant that our daughter was never allowed on the balcony by herself. The breakfast was outstanding with lots of choice every day - hot & cold buffet, pastries, yogurts and fruit. I regretted not choosing the half board option as the food at the hotel was excellent and I would have eaten there quite happily every night. My husband however was more than happy to pick up pizza nearly every evening and eat it on the balcony with a bottle (or two!) of red wine. There seemed to be numerous fish restaurants in the town but if like me you're not a huge fish - or pizza - fan then eating at the hotel is the best option - and it's much cheaper to choose it at booking than to pay for it on a daily basis. There were two pools at the hotel, both very clean. We spent most of our time next to the baby pool which my daughter loved. Be warned that there are no depth indications at the large pool and if you're not an experienced or strong swimmer then this could be dangerous. There is a life guard on duty at peak times - which does not include about two to three hours in the afternoon when most people tend to nap - we did after our first three days! There was entertainment every night performed by a crew of very lively red-coat type people. My daughter loved the 'babydance' and even though this was all in Italian it never proved to be a problem. There were also a number of activities arranged for the day such as waterpolo, dancing, darts etc. All staff from the reception staff to the restaurant staff, the hotel photographer to the cleaners, were friendly, accommodating and very helpful at all times. The beach at the hotel is a shingle beach and quite small but it was private and reached via a tunnel under the road. We did visit the beach at Stintino which although beautiful, was absolutely packed by the time we arrived (9 a.m) and hardly worth the two hour stay. We chose Sardinia because we don't enjoy the "Brits Abroad' holiday and we weren't disappointed. The majority of the hotel guests were Italian and in the whole week we met only two other British families at the hotel. If you want five star and luxury then go to the Forte Village but if you want clean and comfortable and value for money then choose the Pedraladda.

Nice hotel until you get some unwanted visitors in your room...

My husband and I booked this hotel for our honeymoon. we were so looking forward to have a nice week away by the sun as we live in England... The first day was great, staff very friendly and the food ok, not great, but not awful. However the real fun started on our second night. we were already in bed after a very tiring day at the beach, and my husband decided to go to the loo, only to find a cockroach on the bathroom floor!!!!! we removed it (not killed it) and spoke to reception the day after, and we were assured that they would clean the room with products that would get rid of any more cockroaches, should there be more of them in the room. we went out for the whole day and when we came back everything was still in the same position than when we left, arising our suspicions that we would find more... the same evening after some drinks and entertainment we decided to go to bed about midnight and on the way up there were a couple of cockroaches on the stairs and more on the corridor leading to our room, of course we opened the door and we reralised that the room was infested by cockroaches (i still get chills down my spine just by thinking about it). i went down to the night porter while my husband got all of our stuff out of the room, The attitude of the porter was very rude, not something you would expect if a guest is crying because has a fobia of those insects. he moves us to a different room, but to do so we had to wait over an hour and furthermore carrie our own luggage up to 2 flight of stairs. eventually we spoke to a manager who said that if you go to the countryside (the hote is not in the countryside) you have to be prepared for such thing... ok then!!!!! we were offered lunch and dinner FOC on that day...as if it will conpensate for a ruined honeymoon... everything else was ok, the entertainemnt team works so hard and the bar stuff is very friendly. they should probably learn better english as many of the non italian clientelle was not very involved. all in all i don't think i will be visiting this hotel again...

Fantastic Setting - Shame About The Hotel!!
Average rating: guest rating 5.7
stayed in Nov 2007

The Setting for this hotel is fantastic. The bedroom was spacious and very clean, and the views were great (We paid extra for a sea view- well worth the cost) however, the exterior of the building could do with updating and would benefit from a coat of paint. The hotel staff were far from welcoming. When asked if I could have a late check out the answer was No, I even offered to pay for an extra night to keep the room on until 6.00pm, still the answer was No! I asked if there would be somewhere we could shower as we had a late flight, again the answer was no! The only thing that they suggested was being able to keep the key to our room until 12.00pm, very helpful! You really need a car as the resort itself is quite isolated. Would definately go to Sardinia again, but would stay in Alghero, a fantastic resort with lots to do.

We stopped at the Pedraladda Club Hotel 22nd to 25th September, and contrary to some other reviews here, cannot fault the place in any way. The view from our rooms was spectacular and well worth the supplement. The cleaning staff were thorough and friendly and maintained the rooms to a high standard of cleanliness. As far as late check-outs are concerned, we asked and were given the option keeping one of our rooms until 1800 hours for a payment of 50 euros. The reception staff were incredibly helpful and well-mannered - and the food pretty much acceptable and standard hotel fare. Top tip - do try and speak a little Italian with the staff - it pays dividends!!!
