Garstar has stayed here and says:
"My wife and I stayed in this hotel in the last week of August and first week of September. Some of the negative comments we had read here had left us rather worried about what we might find, but this was one of the best holidays we have ever had. We had an I Nidi room with a large sun terrace that..."

A fantastic honeymoon

We have just returned from our 10 day honeymoon at the Hotel Flamingo with our 5 year old son. We had an absolutely wonderful time there. We stayed in a Nidi Suite which was suitable for our stay. Our son was very excited that he was sleeping on a sofa (bed) in the lounge. Breakfast was adequate and the usual continental breakfast - bread, boiled eggs, cereals, ham, cheese, pastries, fruit and yoghurts. We didn't have lunch at the hotel at it was very basic and pricey. We either opted to venture to one of the restaurants for pizza or popped to the local supermarket for fresh rolls and a wonderful deli counter. Dinner in the evening was a bit of a shock at first. We were in the restaurant over the bridge and it consisted of 4 courses every night. There was usually 1 entree which you didn't have to have but most nights it was OK. There were then 4 starters and 4 mains to choose from and a dessert table. We are lucky that our son does eat quite a varied range of food but found out after about 6 days that they are more than happy to provide a bowl of pasta for children and you could also choose something from the main course if they would eat that. We usually started him with pasta and then a meat dish. All the waiters were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The children's entertainment during the day 10-12 and 4-6 was superb. We had no worries about our son going off and taking part in the activities. They then had dancing for children from 9.30 in the evening which he loved. The entertainment for the adults would be after this. Have to say it wasn't great but a couple of evenings were OK. We didn't make use of the spa so can't comment on that. The crazy golf was free so we played that a couple of times. You definitely need a car if you are staying at this hotel as there is nothing within walking distance. The grounds were superb and very well kept. As was the pool area (where we practically spent most of our time there)!! The maid appearing in our room each day was also wonderful - as was having fresh towels and bed linen each day. We had a wonderful time at the Hotel Flamingo and can't wait to return to Sardinia.

Do not go to this hotel!

We arrived back from Sardinia last night after a weeks stay. We originally booked the Flamingo Hotel, HB, Nidi Suite, for the week but after three nights there we decided we had to leave. Do not go to the Flamingo Hotel, the staff are not really nice and there is no decent entertainment, the location is remote with no path to walk anywhere with a buggy apart from a very busy road to Pula which would take you nearly an hour, beach is covered in stones, seaweed and not kept nice, but the main reason not to go is the food. The food was absolutely awful, the worst I have ever experienced in my whole 30 years of travelling experience. The only choice you had from the poolside lunch bar was Cheese and tomato pizza (which was horrible) or 'Toast' which consisted of toasted sliced white bread with one piece of ham and some cheese melted together in the middle - cold. That was the total choice for the whole week, every day, the same. This is supposed to be a four star Italian hotel? The evening meal.. after waiting for anything up to half an hour your starter would arrive - cold, often undercooked, no fresh salad, fresh fruit, no fresh nothing. After waiting up to another half an hour your main course would come, cold, undercooked, basically food that you would not feed to your dog. Examples, curly fries - cold?? Pork, completely raw inside, and cold! My husband and my daughter got tummy ache after being there two days and were visiting the bathroom very regularly. If you engaged in conversation with any of the other guest staying there no-one had anything good to say about the food and most had complained. We complained to our rep who spoke to hotel manager, he offered for us to come to reception everyday and order a special meal to be cooked for us every evening from the Maitre d' - but why should we have to do that? why do we have to have a 'Special Meal', should not all the food be special, cooked well, with good choice in a four star, VERY EXPENSIVE hotel? We did not trust that even if we ordered a Special Meal, it would be any different anyway, same chef, same choice of food in the kitchen, same waiting for too long with a two year old hungry, restless, I don't want to be sat in this restaurant baby. We decided to leave on the fourth day to try and salvage some of our holiday, so we moved to the Biai Di Nora Hotel up the road near Pula at cost to oursevles. The Biai Di Nora is lovely, with fantastic food, nice attentive staff, beautiful surrounding, beautiful beach and good entertainment. All in all the experience was very costly one of which we feel very upset, sad and cheated out of hard earned money by the Flamingo Hotel.

Hotel OK, Breakfast & Lunch Terrible

You need a car at this hotel. Breakfast is grim and luch in the bar is a joke , however DINNER IS SUPERB. The rooms are good, we had a Nidi Suite which was excellent and the staff are good and try to be helpful. There is just something missing. It is not a resort hotel (NO TOWELS BY THE POOL - BE WARNED), it is not 4 star but it could be with a bit of effort. We think the owners should spend some nights there as guests and they would soon see what needs to be done.

We have been staying at Flamingo hotel for four days. The hotel is very beautiful, just on the beach. The staff was very friendly, the room and other places were clean and confortable. The food was good, though breakfast might be improved. Overall, it was a beautiful experience, and a great value for money!

Fabulous Flamingo!

We have just returned from a wonderful 10 days at the Hotel Flamingo! It was our first trip abroad with our two year old son and I was slightly apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but I don't think we could have wished for a nicer time. We hired a car and got to Hotel Flamingo under our own steam and it was easy to find. If you look at any of the hotels or resorts in this area then you will see that all of them are fairly remote, self contained, set in their own grounds and not within walking distance of any main town (although you couldnt exactly call Pula a main town). I think as long as you realise this, and know that if you want to venture anywhere from the hotel then a car is necessary (although the hotel does provide a bus service to Pula and some of the nearby beaches). The hotel building and grounds are well maintained and I'd say the attractive setting and gardens were the main thing I liked about this hotel. The pools are gorgeous and as we were there slightly out of season, it was very quiet too. I would say that the pool bar did have a limited food selection but the restaurant did lunchtime food if something more substantial was required. Alternatively a quick trip to the supermarket to stock up on food to put in the fridge was an option for us on a few days. It's also worth noting that if you venture into Pula or Cagliari then lunch is definitely a 12.00-1.30pm affair, you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere open for food before or after that. The beach is just a few steps down from the pool. As mentioned in some of the other reviews, the hotel beach is a bit stoney at the water's edge but if you walk up the beach a bit then that soon disappears! The beach is clean and there were plenty of deck chairs and shaded areas to sit under with small children. We drove to the beaches at Chia, Tuarredda and di su Giudeu which were all easy to get to and absolutely stunning - highly recommended. As at the hotel though, the local beach cafes really only serve a selection of toasted sandwiches, crisps and cold drinks. We had a Nidi Suite which was clearly quite new, extremely clean, spacious and had a large walled sun-terrace. Yes, the TV does only appear to have CNN and BBC News in English, but if you're going away want to watch TV then stay at home!!! The food during our stay was was absolutely fine! I don't know what people are expecting when they stay in a large hotel but a continental breakfast is pretty much the same throughout Europe. A choice of four cereals, bread for toasting (or not), 3 typs of croissant, fruit, meat, cheese, boiled eggs, yoghurts etc etc was more than adequate! During the evening I thought the choice of 6 starters, 6 main courses and a buffet dessert table was great. The waiters were more than helpful and extremely friendly. The highchair for our son was at our table every night, along with a small plate and teaspoon and no request was too much trouble. There was plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit on offer so I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. We only went to the bar a few times after dinner during our stay and there were singers - of differing styles - so I guess they are trying to meet everyones tastes. I think entertainment for children starts up at the end of June and a few other attractions, eg the water park down the road did not open until the end of June either. I would recommend this hotel on the basis of our stay and would reassure anyone looking to stay here!!!
