Disappointed with the Hotel Bellavista

I will start with the positives about the Francischiello Hotel and Spa Bellavista. This hotel is lovely with a nice pool, great views and what looks like a nice restaurant. The major negative I have with this hotel is that it is very isolated and is located about 5 miles from the nearest town of Sorrento and the nearest shops. I booked into this hotel for 7 nights and checked out after one as there is nothing to do outside the hotel in the immediate area. When I booked the hotel the website stated that the hotel was 5 minutes from Sorrento. To get into Sorrento you are stuck getting a bus which leaves every hour and is about 30 minutes drive. The other option is to get a taxi which costs from ?25 - ?29. Unless you have a car or are after extreme quite time on your holiday this is not the hotel for you.

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel, as we found it on the internet and it seemed nice and within our price range.
Overall a very good hotel. Lovely views, service was good. Rooms were large, air conditioning, minibar, balcony, comfy beds, decent en suite shower.
Reception staff were helpful, even when there was a bus strike, they offered to take us into sorrento....nice touch.
Outdoor swimming pool a little on the cold side, but nice to bathe around. Indoor swimming pool also a little cold, and small, but nice nonetheless
Restaurant good value for money, though would only recommend the hot food, since the cold buffet appeared to be out for days, without any cover.
There is no path outside the hotel, so you have to walk on the road. You can walk to Massa Lubrense town centre in about 20-25 minutes, or catch a bus in 5minutes. You need to catch a bus into Sorrento which takes about 10 minutes. Sorrrento is a lovely town, worth exploring.
There are no beaches nearby, except in sorrento, and you may be charged to sit on them, just as a point of interest
So overall, very good. Recommended to all.

Booked this as a last minute trip (having looked at some of the reviews) and was not disappointed. The staff were fantastic - very friendly and didn't laugh at our attempts to speak Italian. The room was clean and large and sitting on the balcony watching the sunset (or rain) over Capri every night was wonderful. There was the added entertainment of watching the Italian drivers doing breathtaking overtakes outside the hotel, heartstopping to start with but we quickly got used to it! We ate in the hotel restaurant most nights and found both the food and service excellent - it was very quiet during our stay so I don't know how it might differ in high season.
I had also booked this hotel as they advertised gym facilities - useful as running on the roads looked suicidal - but there was only one running machine and a bike in a tiny heated room which turned into a sauna after 5 minutes use, this must be unbearable in the summer. The spa pool looked lovely but I didn't use it as I usually swim laps rather than just relax. The roof terrace was shut so can't comment on that.
The hotel didn't provide much information about the area so worth doing your homework before you go - they did sell tickets for the local bus to Sorrento and had timetables for the Capri ferries and trains to Pompeii and Naples.
All in all would highly recommend the hotel and will probably go back ourselves.
