My partner and I had a business meeting in Milan an decided to head to the coast for the weekend. We found the Lido Palace on-line and reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area. The hotel was exactly what we wanted. We had a beautiful view from our living room with a balcony. The room was very clean. The staff was very helpful as other reviews have stated. They were simpy great. The resturant at the hotel was superb. I highly recommend the Lasagne Pesto. We will be back again. Christopher - Prague, Czech Republic

We stayed here for a week in August. We were travelling with our young son who is 11 months old and thought that the location near the beach made this place ideal. You only have to cross the road to get there, however it is a stony beach which isn't ideal for a crawling baby but the sea is lovely and clean and clear. Take beach shoes with you!! The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast was good. The room was a junior suite. It was very clean and comfortable though not what you would call luxurious. However, we had 2 balconies, one with a view of the beach. Santa Margherita Ligure is a great town with plenty of places to eat and some good bars. The food shops are excellent and you would be able to eat very well if you had self-catering accommodation in the town. The town is very family friendly and it is a resort that is ideal for families rather than singles or couples; the nightlife is fairly low key. We had very few criticisms.... the air-con turns off at night (not ideal!) The suites have lots of stairs (2 flights in our room,) which is problematic if you have young children. Beware of the charge for the steam room - 12 euros!!!! We really enjoyed our stay here.

We chose Lido palace from reading Trip Advisor reviews. Would I recommend this hotel? Location's good but that's about it. At 220 euro a night it was expensive for what we got - a junior suite with plenty of room but average airconditioning, very average furniture, beds & bedding. It reminded me of staying with relatives in Europe in the spare room with old mismatched furniture. There's a bit of attitude at reception too. Location-wise is good - ferries to Portofino are right out the front and there's a beach there too. Of the nearby restaurants - we recommend "Skipper". Would I stay here again - No. Try Helios or if the budget allows Grand Hotel Miramare. Lido palace was very very average for 220 euro even if it is July!

Das Hotel hat eine hervorragende Lage, direkt am Strand von Santa Margherita Ligure; allerdings, wie alle Hotels in der Ortsmitte, durch die Straße getrennt. Zum Boot nach Rapallo oder Portofino sind es nur wenige Schritte, ebenso zur kleinen Fußgängerzone. Die Zimmer sind außerordentlich schön, modern eingerichtet und machen einen frisch renovierten Eindruck. Alle Zimmer haben direkten Meerblick, die meisten auch einen kleinen Balkon. Jedes Zimmer besteht aus getrenntem Wohn- und Schlafbereich. Die Mitarbeiter der Rezeption sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und sprechen gutes Englisch. Auch die anderen Angestellten verbreiten eine freundliche Atmosphäre. Ich werde bei zukünftigen Aufenthalten auf jeden Fall wieder im gleichen Hotel übernachten.

I will add a few items though The negatives 1) A/C cut out from about 2 to 4 am on both nights and also in our friends room - got a little stuffy. 2) My wife and friends in another room had trouble with the hard mattress 3) There are steps down into the room and between the living area and bedroom. That made handling the luggage a bit awkward. 4)Staff was very cordial but not overly helpful 5) Our junior suite had a nice size balcony but our friends on the same floor just a window. They give you the balcony if available and worth the trouble. Positives 1)Junior Suites very spacious 2)Rooms were clean 3) Would be hard to imagine a better location and a terrific view of the harbor and beach. Hotel had parking nearby for a fee. 4) SM was one of my favorite stops on our trip. 5) Train station very near hotel. Train to Cinque Terre took about an hour. Train does not go to Portofino. Bus or boat only.
