The Hotel Metro in downtown Milwaukee was an unexpected gem. The art deco hotel was extremely well appointed. Our suite was amazingly spacious, tidy and comfortable. The hotel was relatively quiet also, with elevators and stairs away from the guest rooms. The in-room Aveda products, specious bathtub and extras like bath salts encouraged relaxing. The staff were helpful and efficient. We never lacked for a thing. Because we have family in Milwaukee, we are pleased to find such a jewel to return to on future visits.

Valet was nowhere to be found. Took over 30 minutes to get help with parking. Winters in Milwaukee are no fun, especially when spent waiting for parking attendant. No problems checking in, but no one around to help with our luggage. Stayed in the Master Suite w/ spa. Room was adequate, somewhat smaller than imagined.
Room service was efficient and costed reasonably. The one high point!
No running hot water for over 3 hours. When we finally received hot water, we ran the spa tub (which looked heavenly) and received nothing but brackish water and dirt. Made a mess of the bathroom and could not get maid service to come up with extra cleaning supplies.
Two days after checking out, credit card was charged an extra $100 for "smoking in the room" when neither of us smoke at all.
Very upsetting experience. Will never go back.

The Metro is a beautiful Hotel located in Milwaukee. Rooms are huge!! Two flat screen tv's in each suite. Great bed, beautful bathroom. Loved the saltwater hotub on the top floor. Wish I could have stayed longer. Don't miss $5 martinis on Friday night.

Just returned from a quick 2 night getaway at the Hotel Metro. We stayed at this property less than a year ago and really loved it, from the saltwater, rooftop hot tub and serenity garden, to the spacious rooms and comfy beds, to the great Art Deco atmosphere. Much of what we love about The Metro remains the same. The service is mostly excellent and the rooftop remains a lovely retreat, and the linens are great. But...the Metro is starting, in less than a year, to seem a bit tired and beat up. The lock on the door of our first room didn't work, and although they sent somone up to open it, it took 2 trips of the maintenance man and a talk from my spouse before they changed our room - that after chatting with the maid (I am bilingual) who assured me with a laugh that the lock on the door had been broken for "years...they just don't want to fix it." We were "upgraded" to a master suite from our king suite - smaller bed, one of those fakey fireplaces taking up most of the space, some kind of stains on the curtains. The front desk staff (and really, all the staff) were courteous but seemed unfazed when I listed the things that were out of service in our first room: scale, TV, door locks, refrigerator, hot water handle on the TUB! "OK, thanks for letting us know" just doesn't seem adequate somehow in a hotel of that caliber.
After the "upgrade" we had what seemed to be a smaller bed and were next to a room where the guests were smoking incessantly. I do think the staff intervened, but the next morning, the guests were at it again. I know that the website states that the master suite has a king bed, but it would seem that there are king size beds, and king size beds, because this second one certainly seemed much smaller.
Finally, we called for room service for breakfast only to be informed that there would be no room service as the restaurant was preparing an Easter brunch, at 36.95 per person. Other than that, we could come to the lobby for a "continental breakfast" - a small plate of very cold and close to frozen pastries, some fruit, and decaf (sorry the real coffee had run out) coffee in paper cups. Yuck, very Holiday Inn in for not-at-all Holiday Inn prices.
In all, less then overwhelmed with the condition of the rooms, stains, disrepair, etc., and confused by some of the service issue although everyone was pleasant. I hope they recover their former sophistication and attention to excellence.

What a pleasant surprise Hotel Metro was! From the outside, it didn't look like much. Upon entering, I was amazed at the European boutique feel of the lobby. The Front Desk staff was wonderful. The valet helped me with my bags up to my room with out me even asking. Our room was so large, it felt like our own private apartment! I loved the Aveda amenities and the seperate shower and bathtub. To be honest , I've never stayed in a room quite like Hotel Metro's!
Sleeping was a bit disrupted by the noisy crowd outside on Milwaukee Street due to the clubs. But then again, what did I expect in a hip downtown hotel on Milwaukee's hottest street? My husband and I ended up extending our stay and it was wonderfully romantic. We will definetely be back!
