"We stayed for four nights in La Chiusa di Chietri, just outside of Alberobello, while house-hunting in Puglia in mid-October. The room was large, clean, and very comfortable, all the modern conveniences, and the staff, although not terribly bi-lingual in English, was most accommodating. We were given..."

I visited this hotel for a week from 3rd August 2007. We asked for and stayed in a Deluxe Trullo as advertised via the hotel website. The hotel is modern with the main hotel providing excellent reception services, modern amenities and half-board accommodation for those who wish to do so. We would definitely recommend staying at this hotel if visiting the region but car hire is essential if the visitor wishes to get out and about. The hotel is located a few miles from Alberobello, the nearest town, and the hotel does provided mini-bus shuttle service to and from the town (incidentally the hotel also owns a stretch of Adriatic coast beach to which they will provided shuttle service if required). Alberobello is very 'touristy' but worth the visit. Our deluxe trullo accommodation was novel but was not as 'deluxe' as expected! Although it was possibly romantic the trullo was windowless and not that appealing for a week's stay. Having viewed the hotel main equivalent deluxe rooms, I can honestly recommend staying in the main building and would not recommend booking one of the trullis. Goodness only knows what the more basic trullo accommodation that is available would be like . . . . .! The hotel provides fixed evening meal with three courses comprised of 3 or 4 choices per course for guests on half-board. There is a la carte menu available and the prices are not extortionate. I was more than happy to eat form the fixed menu which was good quality and often more than enough to eat. The staff service is excellent and provided with smiles and bonhomie. There is an excellent swimming pool and children and adults were thoroughly enjoying the facility during our stay. There are showers (hot and cold), changing rooms and lavatories adjacent to the pool. The hotel provides facilities to support functions and parties and the there are often weddings and anniversary celebrations going on but this is not a disappointment as one can see local people enjoying themselves and it is always well worth seeing a beautiful bride or two as was often the case. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be looking to revisit both the region and this hotel.

A very good 4 star hotel in quiet countryside. The staff were very helpful, they even phoned the local hospital to check that there would be an English speaking doctor on duty to help with an ear problem. They were always willing to help although there English was not so good. An excellent restaurant and the service was very good even at busy times. Prices were equivalent to good retaurants in other areas of Puglia. We found one very good restaurant in Alberobello, Il Poeta Contadino, on the left just as you get to the parking areas for the Trullis, a bit more expensive but excellent service and food. A good choice for a special occassion. There are others but they looked a bit ordinary. We ate in the hotel 4 nights out of 7 and were perfectly happy. We booked a suite and it was worth the extra money. The standard rooms are good but the suite had a separate living area and a jacuzzi. Standard rooms are good 4 star standard, plushly furnished. They do have some Trulli rooms but we didn't see inside any of them. They are also just a little bit away from the main hotel, but if you fancy a stay in a Trulli don't let that put you off. The pool is a good size although the surrounding area is nothing special. There are plenty of umberellas but on a couple of days it was too windy to put them up. There is a poolside bar that serves drinks, coffee and a limited range of lunches. The prices for food and drinks by the pool were pretty good. The hotel is very popular for weddings but this did not affect the service at all and there is only a small area where the wedding and hotel guests cross over. Overall a very good stay that met all our expectations. Highly recommended.

We stayed in a trullo for 6 nights to get the 'local experience'. It was simply decorated, and had a small but adequate wet room. (A hairdryer would have been nice.) The major problem was the standard of cleaning. (Don't drop anything in the bathroom - you really don't want to see how limited the cleaning in there is.) And we didn't expect there to be glass on the rug remaining from the previous occupant - especially when the lighting is inadequate to see this clearly. The most disappointing element of our stay was the food. The everning meal was OK, although expensive. (Although the maitre d' was not especially friendly or accomodating.) But there wasn't a choice of two restaurants as advertised, and lunch was a real problem. After day 2 we ended up going in to town (6k away) to track down a better range of food (and can recommend La Locanda di Don Antonio in Via Giove as offering an interesting modern twist on local cuisine, although not the greatest wine selection), Breakfast was hit and miss - I didn't think it was possible to get such poor coffee in Italy; the rolls were stale and the yogurt was frothy. And although it said breakfast was 7.30 - 10, you had to be there before 8.30 to get anything decent (such as a range of fruit and pastries.) But if you were an early bird there was a good range of fresh and sliced fruit, cheeses and meat, plus the Itlaian cakes which they love to serve for breakfast. There was a TV in hte room, which had satellite which showed BBC Worldwide - adequate for us as we don't want much more than the the news - but the in-room information was incorrect. Having said that, the pool area was very nice (although not providing snacks, it sold a limited range of ices and drinks - although I could not recommend the cocktails.) And the weather was warm enough at 36-38c (96-100f) to have cold showers before swimming (you had to pay for warm water.) The reception staff were helpful and spoke reasonable English.
