Believed to have been built in 1550, the house retains original character, charm and features throughout. With documentation suggesting Elizabeth I originally used the house as a hunting lodge, there are a number of royal connections through ornate ceiling decorations with personal crests. In addition, a moat of saxon origin, jacobean chimney pieces, a rare oak staircase thought to date around 1600 and 17th century flemish tapistries make Great Fosters the designated historic monument it is today. It is set in 50 acres of parkland but just 20 minutes from Heathrow Airport and 30 minutes from central London, close to Hampton Court Palace, Windsor Castle and Ascot.
