I enjoyed my stay in Detroit at the Holiday inn express. Everything worked out well service, a nice comfortable room, a nice breakfast to start the day too. I was always greeted with a nice friendly smile and good morning passing through the lobby. The breakfast crew were also cheery and seemed to enjoy working there. I give 4 points - no you won't get a shoe shine, a butler to open the doors, or anything to fancy but 4 points for a quiet, clean, room and affordable. During my stay my bet is that most guests were baseball fans, and families gathering for reunions. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

Knowing full well that this is a moderately priced hotel, there are still some things that guests should not have to overlook. such as: When we arrived we were greeted by a woman "relieving" herself at the front door of the hotel, eventually she fell over and guests just kind of had to step over her (OH I AM NOT KIDDING), while staffed looked on (where was security. oh wait there isn't any) Our room was dirty, it was as if someone had vomitted in the sink (I scrubbed it it was so disgusting). My view was a grafitti laden building occuped by squatters. The late night consisted of 4 male guests partying until 4Am (banging swearing hollering up and down the halls, banging on doors yellin' ugh it was awful) my teenage daughter and I were acutally afraid for our safety they were so out of control. Front desk staff. Shrugged their shoulders when I complained. Needing a cup of coffee I ventured out into the breakfast area which looked as if it had just been attacked by locusts.
This was certainly not the holiday inn portrayed in those holiday inn-esque commercials. that's for certain!!!!!

Stayed here as part of a last-minute deal package with travelocity-As a single woman traveling around the country to see all the ballparks I was a bit leary about Detroit.
The hotel is located perfectly to take in a ballgame - about 1/2 mile. Easy walk - safe during the day and at night if people are walking back from the game - the area is a bit destitute - what do you expect for Detroit ?
The hotel was better than I thought it would be - I was in room 1525 - nice size and clean - the breakefast was adequate and pretty varied. Nice spread for being included . The staff was attentive and helpful when I posed questions. Parking is a bit steep - $18/day but you do have in/out privileges. It's valet because of the area- be thankful it is. Detroit is pretty expensive in general - surprisingly so - especially parking -
All in all, I would reccomend this hotel and would stay there again if I went back to Detroit.

After reading other reviews I was worried. However, I had a vey pleasant experience. For a Holiday Inn Express, I had a great time. The staff was very friendly and helpful my entire stay. My room was clean when I arrived and they did a good job cleaning it every day. The young lady at the valet service merits a special note for excellent service. The complementary breakfast was better than I had expected. They changed the hot dishes every morning which I did not anticipate. I was attending an event at Cobo Center. The hotel was a easy three block walk. There were few dining option near the hotel but the People Mover was one block away. Many option available near the People Mover stations. My only beef was a minor one. The TV remote was too basic. It did have a sleep mode button or a closed caption button. A viewer could access these features from the TV but that was a pain.
Overall, I had a great experience and I would stay there again.

Stayed here for the NCAA basketball tournament and was pleasantly surprised. Expected an inner city Detroit hotel to be rough around the edges, especially for a mid-priced hotel but I can tell you that it was fine if you adjust your expectations and consider what you pay for. All service staff were pleasant and helpful; no problems here. The rooms were clean and quiet. The beds and pillows, good. Shower and bathroom, fine. Breakfast bar was suitable. Exercise room and pool, bonus. The valet parking and attendants were great. The surrounding area is to be expected for this part of town but as long as you use common sense, i.e., not going out for a walk at midnight, you're fine. Besides the 'people mover' was a block away and for 50 cents a deal and a convenience. We spent most of our time walking everywhere though as sites were accessible. Ford Field and Comerica Park were about a half mile walk, as was Greektown. Recommended.
Some top spots for eating and drinking, all within walking distance in the downtown core:
Best Sports Bar: Hockeytown Cafe (typical ESPN-like bar)
Best Pizza: Pizzapapalis in Greektown by far! (go deep dish)
Best Breakfast: Clique Restaurant by a mile! (bit of a walk but worth it; serves breakfast 'til 3:00 pm)
Best Bar for playing pool: The Detroit Bar
Best for Wings: Sweetwater Tavern
Best Bakery: Astoria Bakery in Greektown...unbelievable!
Best Cheap Eats: hot dogs at Lafayette/American Coney Island (order 2 'Coneys' with everything!)
